As many of you may already know, Japan was hit by a MAJOR earthquake. The initial quake was an 8.9 on the Richter Scale and was off the coast of the main island some 250 miles northeast of Tokyo. It was felt in that city and even in places like Beijing, China. I had no idea about it until my cousin called me and told me that a few of the Japanese celebs that she follows on Twitter were tweeting like crazy stating that they were ok. I went on my own Twitter page and saw the same thing. I began to follow CNN and saw that the breaking news stated that Japan was indeed hit by a major earthquake and tsunami warnings were posted. Then, I turned on the television, switched it to CNN...and saw the damage. I was freaked out! And when they showed the tsunami flooding that farmland, I was quite upset. I was having chills even. And then the tsunami was scheduled to hit other countries within the Pacific Rim. so I was worried about friends that lived in those places too. I think I lost quite a bit of sleep because I was glued to my television well into the morning. I believe I have mentioned this before, but I had lived in Japan for about 2 1/2 years a long time ago. Since then, I've grown very attached to that country. And to see it in such a state made me really sad. While I cannot do much here, I really do hope that Japan will be able to recover and come back stronger than ever. The Red Cross is sending aid, and I gave blood last month, so I hope that maybe my blood is on it's way over there. Even after this, I'd still want to go back and visit.
Not only has there been an earthquake with tsunamis, but a volcanic erruption happened in Indonesia a few hours after it had happened. Then there are the protests in the Middle East. Now in the U.S. there is flooding and fires. Not to mention all the natural disasters that have happened within such a short amount of time: earthquakes in Haiti, Chile, and New Zealand and flooding in Australia. Makes you wonder what is going on with the world, huh? I can hear people now saying that it may be 2012. Eh...we don't really know. Maybe it is a sign from God. Whatever it may be, I pray for everyone affected and hope that things will get better real soon.
