Wow! This year was full of ups and downs both in real life and fangirl life! o__o And with just a few hours to go until the new year (where I live), let's take a look back at just a fraction of the things that made the year.
In real life we had...
We survived the 2012 apocolypse!!
First and foremost, amidst all the fears of an apocolypse that was to pass on December 21, 2012 due to the ending of the Mayan calendar...we made it! \(^o^)/
Birth of baby George
This year, Prince William and his wife the Dutchess of Cambridge were blessed with a baby boy whom they named George. It was a huge televised event. I recall everyone eagerly awaiting for Kate to come out with the bundle of joy in her arms.
Trayvon Martin verdict
Many people, especially in the black community were outraged when they heard that George Zimmerman, accused of killing Trayvon Martin was found not guilty. Honestly, I was also upset. It may have come to no suprise to some people as Florida has had a few other issues with it's now infamous 'Stand Your Ground' law. :/
Goodness gracious, great balls of fire!
Earlier in the year, a rogue meteor fell over Russia. It blazed through the sky, casuing a sonic boom that damaged many buildings and injured a few people. It was quite a suprise! Then, later in the year, many were excited about the comet known as ISON as it was set to make its journey around the sun. If it had made it fully around, many would have been treated to a spectacular sight that night. Unfortunately, nobody really knows what happened to ISON. Some say it disintegrated while others say that a part of it made it around.
Reveal of PS4 and Xbox One
It was a battle of game consoles! You were either for the PS4 or the Xbox One. Both have really nice graphics. Both had many cool features. Both are very expensive. XD
Pacific storms
While the hurricane season in the Atlantic was really quiet this year, the Pacific seemed to be really active! The worst one of the year was Hurricane Hayan (or Yolanda) that hit the Philippines. Many were killed and the damage is still very much apparent to this day. :( Stay strong, Philippines!
"What does the fox say?"
Need I say more? But the song is entertaining.
Twerking
Need I say more again?
Television drama
While there were many shows that came out this year, there were ones that totally gripped people: 'Scandal', 'Breaking Bad', 'The Walking Dead', and 'Game of Thrones'. Some of them ended their seasons on cliff-hangers or just left people in shock. I have heard that people were so very shocked at the "red wedding scene" for 'Game of Thrones'. Some characters were even killed off like Brian Griffin of 'Family Guy' who was then brought back to life (and the creator made it a life lesson to boot).
There were many other stories that made headline news as well: 'Duck Dynasty's Phil Robertson's controversial comments, the earthquake in Pakistan that formed a new island, Sout Korea's first female president, the school shooting in Colorado, Miley Cyrus' crazy antics, etc. You can see a little clip Google has done for many other stories that I wasn't able to remember here.
In fandom we had...
My birthday cards to Changmin and Junnosuke
This year, I decided I actually wanted to do something worthwhile for Changmin's birthday. So, I made him a birthday card and sent it off through a fanproject. Likewise, I made a birthday card for Junnosuke as well and sent it on my own. I'm not so sure if it had made it to them, but the fact of the matter is that I did try.
ChangToria scandal
This may have been the most shocking (to me, personally) story of 2013. f(x)'s leader, Victoria was wanting to show the food that she had made for new year, so she took a picture of it and uploaded it to her Weibo account. But fans nowadays are like the FBI, and they noticed--in the reflection of a spoon--Changmin. Now that is really shocking and funny that they'd be able to zoom in and accurately tell that it was him. Then...the dating rumors came, and once they did, Victoira took down the picture only to upload it again with the spoon being covered with word art. The dating rumors spread, and SM had to step in to say that they did meet each other to eat, but there was also other people there too. But apparently, a few Cassiopeia knew that they had been dating since 2010 (I was not one of them), but it's hard to tell if they still are. To this day, I am still upset about this whole story and speculation that they may still be dating. >:(
The U.S. was a big hotspot
This year it felt like many artists decided to visit California, New York, and even Texas this year. Infinite, EXO, B.A.P., f(x), SISTAR, U-Kiss, Boyfriend, Koda Kumi, Namie Amuro, VIXX, KAT-TUN, etc. All these people were here...and yet...I wasn't able to see any of them. ;A;
10 years
Two groups made it to their tenth anniversary this year. And both groups have lost members before that even happend. :( NEWS and TVXQ celebrated ten years this year as four from nine and two from five. It's rather hearbreaking. I haven heard much on how NEWS celebrated, but all five members of TVXQ celebrated it as the duo and JYJ. And I was really wishing that they'd come back together on that day, but...what can you do? Maybe they got together outside of the public eye to celebrate. A fan can only dream...
Changmin and Junnosuke friendship, for the win!
Earlier this year, Changmin said on a Japanese television program that he had lunch with KAT-TUN member Junnosuke. I was SO HAPPY to hear that! The host even said that they must've gotten quite a few stares. She probably meant that because they kind of look alike. ^^ But a few months after that, Junnosuke attended one of the dates for the 'TIME' concert. Next, I hope to see them both star in a drama (either Japanese or Korean). Hey...let's throw Jerry Yan in the mix too!
Celebrity departures
This year, two celebrities left their respective groups: Dongho of U-Kiss and Koki of KAT-TUN. Both left for different reasons. Dongho, worried about his health, left due to the extremes of idol life. Koki was forced to leave KAT-TUN due to too many previous scandals. It was a sad day for both Kiss Me and Hyphen alike. But in Hyphens' case, there was joy soon afterwards as Koki decided to join Twitter!
Allkpop/Ailee scandal
This one is probably the biggest scandal of the year. Kpop gossip news site Allkpop got into a HUGE mess when it posted an article about nude photos of Ailee that were released from a shady website. What was the issue was that the one who posted those pictures was her ex-boyfriend...who also works at Allkpop. Unfortunately, this caused the site to lose many followers (some were even Kpop stars).
There were many other stories within many of the fandoms I am a part of (and ones I try to keep up with). As I had stated, this was quite an eventful year. Let's hope 2014 will be better in good news and not have so much bad news.
Until next time~! (^__^)/
